Robert Erwin Cross, age 84, was carried by angels to be with his Savior on September 19, 2021. Robert, whom most everyone called Bob, was born, and passed in St. Louis. He was a man of integrity, who fiercely loved his family and his God. He married the love of his life, Joyce and their journey began in April of 1957 lasting 64 years. He entered the United States Coast Guard in 1955 where he proudly served his country for 8 years, active duty and in the reserves. Bob was a Christian and he had a personal relationship with God and referred to him as “The Good Lord”. He was an active member of Christ the King Community Church and always willing to volunteer to serve where needed. His career started in the grocery business, and he retired from the Haas Bakery sales route that he owned. Bob was a family man, who enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and extended family. Most people would think of him as quiet, or serious, but those of us who loved him know that he loved to joke around and be silly. For every picture you snapped of him with a normal smile, you would immediately get a silly photo opportunity to follow with his tongue hanging out and crazy eyes. And you better watch your back, because most likely he would “bunny ear” you. Bob loved fishing with his children, grandchildren, and siblings, so much so that he was nicknamed “Catfish”. He enjoyed hanging out in the yard gardening, tinkering around the house, and crafting things with wood.
Robert loved - his parents – the late Everett Loren Cross; the late Helen Mabel (Gurney) Cross and the late Mary Marjorie (Schaeffer)Cross. He loved - his wife Joyce Ann (Kraemer) Cross. He loved - his children, the late Robert Loren Cross; the late Belinda Ann (Cross) McCoy (David), Sharon Grace Cross, the late Matthew Milton Cross (Dawn) and Joseph Eric Cross. He loved - his grandchildren, Ryan Cross (Elena); Melissa Powers (David): Elisabeth Siebuhr; Justin McCoy (Caitlin), Sarah McCoy, Anthony Phillips (Ashley), Amanda Hartle and Katlyn Rhoden (Emmett). He loved – his great grandchildren, Aiden Powers, Haleigh Powers, Riley Powers, Casey McCoy, Weston McCoy, Alouna Rhoden and Emberly Rhoden. He loved his siblings – Edward Cross (Jean); Paul Cross (Martha); Jean Oberkirsch (Mark); Mary Labanca (Tom) and Michael Cross. He loved - his fur baby, Willow. He loved is Savior. He loved his country. The legacy that this man left behind is love.
Services to honor him will be held Monday, October 4th at Fey Funeral Home. Visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial with military honors to follow at St. Paul Churchyard. We will gather celebrating his life and legacy at Christ the King Community Church, 9018 Big Bend Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63119.
