Ernest was born on October 8, 1943 in the city of Memphis, Tennessee. Ernest was the youngest of six children born to the late Willis Cullion Nichols, Jr. (father) and Eddie Beatrice McGhee Nichols (mother).

During his service in the army he married Shirley Ann Nichols and later began a family. He enjoyed walking, making ceramics, drawing, reading the bible, and spending time with his family.
Ernest is preceded in death by his brothers Bertram Rondel Nichols, Nathanial McGhee Nichols, and Willis Cullion Nichols III and great-grandson Taylon Jeremiah Williams. He leaves to cherish his fond memories with his wife Shirley Ann Nichols, his sister Cleo Marie Deadmon, his brother Charles Augustuc Nichols, and three children Angela Nichols, Dionne Nichols, Ernest Nichols II, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
During his journey he was surrounded and cared by family. Bonds grew closer than ever and we are thankful for the time and memories that we were able to share.
