Don Range was born on April 6, 1935 and passed away peacefully on April 7, 2024 at age 89. Beloved son of the late Aloysious “Ollie” and Mildred Range; loving brother and preceded in death by siblings, Joan, Richard “Dick” and Kenny Range; survived by sister, Joyce Knobbe Range. Formerly married to Norma Ferris Range; loving father of Daniel and Douglas (Pamela) Range; beloved grandfather of Louis and Samuel; loving uncle to many.
Don was born in South St. Louis and went to school and played soccer at OLS and SLUH. He served in the US Army from 1954-1956. He played soccer for SLU, winning NCAA Soccer Championship in 1959 and 1960. He was the NCAAs Most Valuable Forward in 1960. He also played for amateur soccer teams including Bilgeres, CSMAC, Kutis, St. Ambrose, Thurmers, and St. Louis Stars – as player and coach. Don became a proud member of The St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame and STL Soccer Hall of Fame Facebook page. He earned a Master's in Social Work at SLU in 1977, loved to travel, and lived in MO, MT, AZ, WY and OR. His ashes will be spread on the Oregon coast where he lived and thrived for decades. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Missouri Botanical Gardens, NAMI, Soccer Without Borders, or Alzheimer’s Association.
