Alois (Al) Kirchhofer, Sr. Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Alois (Al) R. Kirchhofer, Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, proud veteran, and steadfast friend. Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on March 28, 2026, at age 87. Al was the beloved husband of Sharon, whose partnership and love were the foundation of a life filled with laughter and faith. As a father of four, he was a constant source of strength, wisdom, and humor—always ready with a story, a lesson, or one of his famously sharp-witted puns. He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Navy, carrying that same sense of duty into a remarkable 38-year career as a firefighter with the Affton Fire Department where he rose to the rank of Captain. In that role, he protected his community with courage, humility, and unwavering commitment, forming bonds with his fellow firefighters that he cherished deeply. A man of strong and abiding faith, he lived his beliefs through quiet acts of kindness, generosity, and compassion. He truly never met a stranger—only friends he hadn’t yet made. Whether sharing a laugh over a card game, devouring his favorite desserts, or spinning a well-told story, he brought warmth and joy to every room he entered. He will be remembered for his quick wit, his servant’s heart, and the love he gave so freely to his family and all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the stories he told, and the values he instilled. Al was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Sharon Kirchhofer (nee Fendler). He is survived by his children, Alois Jr. (Jennifer), Chris (Tammy), Desi (Terri) and Rebekah Kirchhofer; and grandchildren Tori, Desi Jr., Christopher "Snakeboy" and Isabelle Kirchhofer and a wide circle of family, friends, and brothers and sisters from his years of service. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will forever be a source of comfort, laughter, and inspiration. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Private services only. In lieu of flowers, donate to a charity of your choice or perform a random act of kindness in true “Al spirit.”
